The Hip and Knee Clinic @ Harbour City Orthopaedics is a boutique orthopaedic practice focused at providing personalized orthopaedic care and services of the highest standard, with a holistic attitude to health and wellbeing. Our mantra is “Treat the man, not the scan” and our objective, to create an environment where excellence in healthcare flourishes.

Our services include management of common conditions affecting the adult Hip and Knee joint with specialisation in Hip and Knee Replacement and Sports Knee Reconstruction Surgery. Narelle retired from full time work in February 2022. She still assists remotely from time to time when she not being a busy Grandmother or enjoying her new central coast lifestyle.

Tracey joined us at the beginning of 2022. Tracey brings a wealth of experience in the corporate world combined with her industrious work ethic and direct communication style. Dr John Obeid

Specialist Phycisian

Dr Obeid is a consultant physician and geriatrician. He has considerable experience in peri-operative medicine as well as all areas of geriatric medicine and rehabilitation. He graduated with honours from the University of Sydney in 1992, then completed specialist physician training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and Nepean Hospital, Sydney. He was awarded fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 1998.

Dr Obeid has held many distinguished positions in both public and private hospitals in the fields of geriatric medicine, rehabilitation, stroke and medical administration. He is currently a senior Visiting Medical Officer at Fairfield, Norwest Private and The Hills Private Hospitals in Sydney. Dr Obeid is a proactive teacher and academic, with educational commitments at the University of Notre Dame and Sydney Universities. He was previously the Director of Prevocational Education and Training and has served on the Federal Council of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine since 2001.

Specialist Anaesthetist

Dr Ann Marie McCallum obtained her medical and Specialist Anaesthetist training in Sydney. She then completed a sub-specialisation Fellowship in Edinburgh, UK. She has significant experience in Orthopaedic Anaesthesia including the management of patients with complex medical comorbidities. Apart from her clinical duties she has a keen interest in medical education/simulation and is active in the supervision and teaching of specialist trainees in anaesthesia.

She is a regular volunteer with the humanitarian charity “Mercy Ships”, providing anaesthetic care to developing countries in West Africa. Dr McCallum is currently appointed to several public and private hospitals across Sydney

Dr Karthik Nagarajan

Specialist Anaesthetist

Dr Karthik Nagarajan is a specialist anaesthetist based in Sydney. He completed his medical degree at the University of New South Wales in 2005. He subsequently completed his anaesthetic post graduate training at Royal North Shore Hospital, which included working as a retrieval doctor with Careflight & the NSW ambulance service. Dr Nagarajan was appointed the Senior Anaesthetic Fellow at Royal North Shore Hosptial in 2013, & continues to work at the hospital as a senior anaesthetic specialist.

Dr Nagarajan’s regular anaesthetic practice encompasses a broad range of surgical specialties including orthopaedic surgery. He has a keen interest in regional anaesthesia in line with our philosophy of Enhanced Recovery methods.

He is also heavily involved in anaesthetic trainee education. Dr Nagarajan is also regular volunteer on an annual charitable medical trip to the Philippines for the treatment of cleft lip & palate surgery for underprivileged children.

Dr Hannah Wong

Dr Hannah Wong is a specialist anaesthetist based in Sydney. She obtained the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (Honours) from the University of New South Wales in 2000 and undertook further training in anaesthesia at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, becoming a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2009.

She has significant interest and experience in anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery including patients with complex medical comorbidities. Dr Wong also has a special interest in the review of critical incidents and quality assurance in anaesthesia.

She aims to provide a safe and stress free journey for each patient, tailoring the anaesthetic to the requirements of each individual.

Dr Amar Saluja

Specialist Anaesthetist

Dr Saluja is a senior specialist anaesthetist based in Western Sydney and chairman of the anaesthetic department at Hawkesbury Area Health Service.

He has been in anaesthetic practice for 25 years with extensive experience in the specialty both nationally and internationally having provided his services to premier institutions in UAE, Dubai, Muscat, India and here at home.

Dr Saluja became a fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthtetists in 2006 and has since been working as a specialist anaesthetist in different public and private hospitals in Sydney. He also has a special interest in orthopaedic anaesthetics. Apart from his clinical practice, Dr Saluja is also an educator, teaching undergraduate students from the Universities of Notre Dame, Sydney and Western Sydney.

Dr Baraniselvan Ramalingam

Specialist Anaesthetist

Dr Barani Ramalingam is a Sydney based specialist Anaesthetist. He completed his medical degree followed by anaesthetic training and intensive care training in the well renowned Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. After relocating to Australia, he worked in Queensland in Intensive care and then completed his Australian anaesthetic training in Sydney. He now works as Consultant Anaesthetist across multiple hospitals in Sydney in both public and private settings.

He has experience in a wide range of anaesthetic settings with special interest in Orthopaedics, Perioperative medicine and clinical ultrasound.

Barani takes utmost care and interest to ensure each patient is provided with personalized treatment according to their needs. His goal is to ensure that the patients feel supported and informed in a time when it is natural to feel anxious.

Outside of medicine Barani enjoys cooking, spending time with his family and exploring the great outdoors.

Assoc. Prof Sol Qurashi

Hip & Knee Surgeon

Associate Professor Qurashi is a Sydney trained and based Hip & Knee Surgeon with expertise in SuperPATH Hip, Knee Replacement and Reconstructive surgery.

He is the pioneer and first surgeon to introduce the micro invasive SuperPATH Hip Replacements in Australia and report on functional outcomes. He is also the pioneer of overnight stay and same day discharge / outpatient joint replacements in Australia having published his experience as an Australian first in peer reviewed journals including the Reconstructive Review and the ANZ journal of Surgery in 2020 and again in 2022.

His other areas of expertise include Knee Replacement and Realignment surgery, Arthroscopic and Ligament Reconstructive surgery.

Associate Professor Qurashi holds appointments at multiple public and private hospitals in Sydney. He has academic affiliations with the Universities of Sydney and Notre Dame and is at the forefront of research and development in his field.

Associate Professor Qurashi’s Profile

Dr. Qurashi went to Randwick Boys High and attended the Universities of NSW and Newcastle. He qualified as a doctor in the year 2000. After starting clinical practice in 2001 he spent the next 9 years specializing in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery through the Australian Orthopaedic Association (Sydney Southside Training Program) and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons to qualify as a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon (FRACS).

He then spent another year in Europe, including the prestigious Charite Klinik in Germany, learning advanced techniques in Hip Arthroscopy, Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery and Knee Ligament Reconstruction.

Associate Professor Qurashi founded The Hip and Knee Clinic @ Harbourcity Orthopaedics in 2010.

He consults at Potts Point, Ashfield, Norwest, Penrith, Windsor and Leura.

He operates at St Luke’s Hospital Potts Point, Canterbury, Norwest, Nepean and Hawkesbury Hospitals.
